
CONSTITUTION OF THE ASSOCIATION
OBJECTS OF THE ASSOCIATION
The objects of The HMS ARGONAUT Association (hereinafter referred to as “the Association”) are to carry on the business of a club by providing for the use of its members the means of social intercourse, mutual, recreation and to further advance the comradeship which arose through service on board Her Majesty’s Ship ARGONAUT.
OFFICE ADDRESS
The Office of the Association shall be that of the Chairman/woman for the period of their office. The current Office is available upon request.
OFFICERS
The Honorary Officers of the Association shall be, President, Vice Presidents, Chairman/woman, Social Secretary, Treasurer, Merchandise Secretary. Officers, excluding Vice Presidents, shall be elected by the members for a two-year period of office, or until such time that they resign, whichever is the sooner. Honorary Vice Presidents shall be appointed for life by the Committee, after consultation with the membership. Honorary Vice Presidents shall not have voting rights.
COMMITTEE
The Committee shall be comprised of: President, Chairman/woman, Social Secretary, Treasurer, Merchandise Secretary, plus one ordinary member. The Committee shall meet at least once a year face-to-face. Other Committee meetings, due to the dispersed nature of the membership, shall be held using electronic media.
Committee members who are signatories to the bank account shall be: Chairman, Treasurer, Merchandise Secretary. Payments shall be authorised, and cheques shall be signed by any two of the three designated signatories.
MEMBERSHIP
The membership shall comprise the following categories:
Being those having served aboard any ship bearing the name HMS ARGONAUT.
Being relatives of those having served aboard any ship bearing the name HMS ARGONAUT, present and past, or those who have given outstanding service to the ship.
Being friends of those having served in any ship named HMS ARGONAUT, or those with an interest in any ship of that name.
Being membership that is awarded, by the Committee, without payment of membership fees on individuals for outstanding service or contribution to any ship bearing the name HMS ARGONAUT or their service to the Association.
MEMBERSHIP SUBSCRIPTIONS
Subscriptions shall be set by the Committee and paid annually by the method determined by the Treasurer. Any member who has not paid his or her subscription after a period of six months from the due date shall cease to be a member of the Association, shall not take part in the activities of the Association, or hold any office. The Committee shall, at its discretion, excuse the non-payment of subscriptions if by reason of personal hardship.
REGISTER OF MEMBERS
The Association shall keep and maintain a register of members
SOCIAL MEDIA
The Association shall maintain a Facebook page, which shall be monitored, and inappropriate posts deleted. Those who persistently post inappropriate material shall be blocked by the administrator.
THE ASSOCIATION STANDARD
The Association Standard is the property of the Association and shall be kept in safe keeping by the Association Standard Bearer. The Standard shall be paraded at any military act of remembrance or celebration deemed appropriate by the Committee.
THE HMS ARGONAUT MEMORIAL
The Memorial to those who served and lost their lives on HMS Argonaut is located at the National Memorial Arboretum. The annual cost of the upkeep of the said Memorial shall be paid to the National Memorial Arboretum by the due date from Association funds.
ASSOCIATION MERCHANDISE
Association merchandise shall be organized by the Merchandise Secretary and purchased from nominated suppliers. Merchandise shall be sold to the membership at a modest profit and the proceeds deposited in the Association bank account.
