  1. Re reunion 2012 my preferences,Plymouth, accomodation either on site or nearby,buffet,£20/30,disco.Served in Argonaut 1974/76 in touch with several of my RO,s Mess. Missed last one due to sickness.Come on shipmates lets stick together for the Argo!!

  2. Hiya Pusser. Me and Ronnie Meldrum were desperate to go to a reunion – to the point that we even thought of organising our own. Now that you have taken the bull by the horns we certainly are in agreement with all your proposals. Any idea what month? Also, Ron has set up a Facebook page for the Argonaut so would welcome any one who was associated with the ship to have a look and join it. Whilst I’m about it I had better join this Association.

  3. Hi H. It would be good to get the reunion going again! It would be a good idea to alternate between Pompey and Guz – although Argonaut was Guz-based for most of the time people do move around. £20-30 seems reasonable for a buffet. I think there needs to be some music – disco or background – it depends on whether people want to dance or talk/catch up – I never was a great dancer!

  4. It would be great to have a reunion again, the last one in May 2010 was a great success-there are some photos posted on the facebook site. I am now in touch with some of the Stokers from 80-81 so I will drop them a line to try and get them to join in.
Do you have any idea of a date yet or are you just speculating at the moment. I think a buffet and disco are a good idea, somewhere central perhaps. The Astor seemed like a decent place with accomodation and other accomodation nearby.

  5. Do any ex Argos out there know what happened to the ships nameplate when she was scapped?

  6. It’s great that someone is looking into organising another reunion. Thanks. The one in 2010 was excellent and as Rob Ford states; there are a few of us Stokers from Argonaut 82 (Falklands) that are in touch with each other and I would think that at least 6 or 7 of us will attend possibly with partners. I’m sure wherever the venue turns out to be, we would all make it anyway and a buffet and some music is a great idea. I’m sure we’d all be willing to pay around £20 a head. As with the 2010 reunion, the weekend of 19/20th May would be an ideal date as it would be almost 30 years to the day when the Argonaut suffered serious bomb damage in San Carlos Bay – a date we will all remember!. I look forward to it – Standby!

  7. With regards to the Argonaut’s nameplate – try Potter’s front door! those of us who served onboard with Potter will know who I mean as he spent most of his naval career on the Argonaut!

  8. I have suggested to Andy that Mrs Shirley Winn of IOW Tours be approcahed to give a quote for a reunion. They are brilliant http://www.iowtours.com/whatwecando.asp and take all the hassle out of the orgaising. Check out the SAMA (82) website Unit Reunions 2012 and Events Nationally 2012 pages to see what is organised already http://www.sama82.org.uk.dnnmax.com/ In addition be aware of the new concessionary fare scheme to the Falklands which has a page on the website.

  9. I would be interested in attending another reunion, however there are some other events taking place in May also ….. the dedication of the Falklands National Memorial at the National Arboretum on Sunday 20th May and a weekend concert / march in Gosport 26th and 27th (details on the SAMA82 website).
On another note, how much subs do I owe ??

  10. Im happy to go with Plymouth in May as said by others below/above, I think The Astor was fine and a great weekend was had by all.

  11. love to attend any reunion. not seen many faces since i left in 82 after we had de stored and went into dry dock. any guys out there who went on the armilla patrol 81 and down south in 82?? be nice to hear from you

  12. I’m happy to attend a reunion where ever it’s decided to be. The last one at the Astor (2010) was a good night. I served on the Argo 1979- 1982 was also on the Armilla patrol (lots of sun beer and banyans). I am still in touch with Paul (Gooch) Roberts who still lives in North Wales. We resided down the Greenies mess down Aft. It would be good to hear from anyone who remembers us!!

  13. Hi,
Any news on a date/venue for the reunion yet, some of us 80-82 Stokers are up for it and I am sure that when it is arranged more will confirm attendance.

    Cheers

  14. don’t quite understand the web site, however if anybody remembers me and i’m sure there are then please e-mail

  15. I remember you quite well Tony, sitting in Pos mess with Tag , myself and the most famous song was ” only you” by the Platters, Gulf trip in 81

  16. Just had a quick look at the feedback form. Just to say that I don’t care where, don’t really mind the cost (within reason) and don’t mind if it is a buffet, sit down meal or all you can drink night…I just need a good night out with my old oppos!

  17. And I remember both of you when I was POs Messman – happy, boozy (IPA) days! Best wishes, Alf

  18. Any progress on the reunion? We’ve got at least 8 stokers from 82 who wish to attend. I’m sure wherever the venue turns out to be we will all make it. The weeekend of 19/20th May would be ideal for reasons mentioned previously but I’m aware that there is a concert and a ceremonial march going on the weeekend after in Gosport. I’m now speaking on behalf of Ian (Jonah) Jones as he is only small and someone has placed his keyboard on the top shelf and he can;t reach it – even standing on a chair! Also on behalf of Ian(Hammy) Hamiltion as he is built like Stoneman and the size of his fingers are not conducive to using a keyboard! Hope to hear something soon? Regards, Landscape.

  19. Just all head down to Gosport for the weekend of 26th /27th May for the Reunion and concert on HMS Sultan Polo Fields on Sat 26th and on Sunday 27th May a march through Gosport for the Falkland Veterans to excercise their right to the Freedom of the Borough behind a Royal Marine Band, with a Service in the Falkland Gardens and a reception afterwards. If there are enough veterans from a particular unit, then it may be possible to have your own platoon. The SAMA (82) Caravan and Camping Branch have secured pitches on Kingfisher Caravn Park acroos the road from the Polo Fields, so bring a carvan/campervan/tent and save on Hotel Bills.

  20. There will be a Platoon (or platoons) of Falkand Veterans marching in the National Armed Forces Day parade in Plymouth on 30th June 2012. We have asked to lead the parade with the SAMA (82) National Standard as this is the 30th Anniversary and there is nothing planned in London. See SAMA Website and Discussion Board for details.

  21. Dont forget, that the main event for the 30th Anniversary of the Falklands Conflict is the dedication of the Falklands Memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum, Alrewas on Sunday 27th May. This is during the weekend of the SAMA (82) AGM and Gala Dinner on Saturday 19th May. Why not come along to that and use it as your reunion too? Details on the SAMA (82) website.
