I joined the Royal Navy on the 16th October 1989 as a Junior Seaman Electronic Warfare operator.

My basic training was done at HMS Raleigh and my (EW) training at HMS Dryad.

The Argonaut was my first ship and I was very lucky as I joined the ship with some familiar faces from basic training. We headed off across the pond and visited many an exotic place including Venezuela and New York.

Whilst on board we were involved in some exciting and interesting operations in- cluding the arrest of Roderick Newell who was suspected of killing his parents. This took place off the Moroccan coast in International waters. Another memorable event for other reasons was remembrance day at El Alamein in 1992
